The woman behind the studio

Briana Gibson Reeves is a seasoned math educator with over 20 years of experience across public, private, and charter schools. A graduate of Hampton University with a math-focused Economics degree, she began her teaching career through Teach for America and quickly rose to distinction. Just three years in, she was named by the superintendent as one of the top ten teachers in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools for student growth and achievement—the youngest educator to receive that honor.

Briana has served as a high school math teacher, department chair, and K–8 math specialist, where she wrote curriculum and coached teachers and principals to elevate math instruction across multiple schools. Most recently, she taught honors math and led an award-winning Math Team at Gilman School. She’s known for blending deep mathematical understanding with creative energy—often using her performance background to make math memorable through songs and storytelling.

In addition to founding Bright Math Studio, Briana is a professional stage, screen, and voice actress, and runs an improvisation-based coaching company. She lives in Brooklyn with her husband and travels every chance she gets.
